Healthy Start Press Conference

March 20, 2018

Volusia County Health Department, 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach, Florida

10:00 am to 11:00 am

Daytona Beach, Florida- In preparation of National Child Abuse Prevention month, the Healthy Start Coalition is holding a press conference to bring awareness about infant and child injury and death and prevention methods to decrease the incidences of infant mortality and sleep related deaths.

Infant and child injuries are responsible for more than 16,000 deaths in the United States. About 70% of these deaths are unintentional and preventable. As a community partnership, we are responsible for mobilizing actions for our community as a coordinated effort to prevent infant and child deaths and injuries.

Healthy Start has teamed up with several community stakeholders to shed light on this important issue within our community. We want to educate and raise awareness throughout the community and help families who are not educated about infant and child death and injury, the impact of racial disparities, and what can be done to prevent fatalities. We will focus on issues that make families particularly vulnerable to injury and death including poverty, health inequity, unsafe conditions, lack of adequate housing, and insufficient protective factors in families. Most importantly, we want to assist families, in every aspect, to reduce possible risk factors, promote healthy pregnancies and babies, and prevent infant and child injury and deaths.

We join with other local leaders to address this issue by holding a press conference at the Volusia County Health Department, 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach, Florida from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
