Community Education and Collaboration
Dixie Morgese has over fifteen years experience developing
and implementing systems of care to serve communities in the
areas of maternal child health, family risk and resiliency,
HIV and addictions. Prior to becoming the Executive Director
of Healthy Start, Ms. Morgese provided technical consulting,
quality monitoring, and staff development for Health and Family
Service entities throughout the state of Florida. Since 1993,
she has participated in Healthy Start service delivery planning
and program implementation. Dixie is a native Floridian and
the mother of two school-aged children. Besides being a mom
and an Executive Director, Dixie teaches classical ballet
to adults at Dance Express Productions in Holly Hill.

A graduate of University of Central Florida, Carrie has over ten years experience in the field of maternal and child health planning. She joined the Healthy Start staff in 1994 as Assistant Director, and her knowledge and experience in the field has developed and expanded during the agency’s significant growth over the past twelve years. Prior to her employment with Healthy Start, Ms. Wilson worked for the Volusia County Government in Growth Management and the County Manager’s office for five years. Carrie was born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois, but has been a resident of DeLand, Florida for the past twenty-three years. She enjoys community volunteer work, and volunteers as often as possible at her daughter’s elementary school and for other agencies and events that benefit local women and children |

Susan has been an advocate for children and families for
the last eighteen years of her career
within the social service field. Previously,
she worked in the mental health
field; and then took a position as
the Regional Director for an agency
that provided support coordination services
for individuals who were developmentally
and mentally challenged. She has been
Healthy Start’s
Director of Program Development and
Implementation, since June, 2001. Susan enjoys traveling.
She is also a Tampa Bay Buccaneers
and Marshall University Thundering

Joanne Main

Joanne began her career
as an elementary school teacher. After moving to Florida
in 1977, she gravitated
towards administrative and network
support positions with the state, and later in the mortgage
banking and software
industries. Joanne’s responsibilities at Healthy Start
encompass facility management, network
support and data coordination. She joined the Healthy Start
team in February, 2002. Joanne
enjoys empowering others to use information
in a way that helps them improve their lives. |

Peggy worked for the same
company in Hialeah, Florida for twenty-seven years prior
to coming to Healthy Start in June,
2002. Her skills and abilities allowed
her to rise to a position in the Quality Control field
before she left Hialeah
to reside in Deland, Florida where
her parents live. Peggy assists Healthy Start’s
Executive Director; and oversees human resource functions,
administrative support and special
projects. Peggy enjoys spending time
with her grandchildren, the beach, NASCAR racing, dancing,
and volunteering.

Leslie Pearce

Management of Fetal Infant and Mortality Review and
Healthy Start Subcontracts
Leslie has been a Children's and Families Advocate for
almost two decades through out the community. Leslie has
been employed by the Healthy Start Coalition since 1998
where she has held different positions and is currently
the Fetal Infant Mortality Review Project Coordinator
and Quality Assurance Specialist. She has served as a
Board Member for the House Next Door and currently serves
on the Boys & Girls Club of Volusia and Flagler Counties
Board of Directors. Leslie was named the Southwest Volusia
Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year 1996-1997 and
received a Proclamation form the City of Deltona for her
involvement with the youth in her community. She continues
to raise public awareness regarding the mission of Healthy
Start, as demonstrated by the Four Townes Rotary Club
who's Community Service Project is to assist with reducing
Infant Mortality. Leslie strives to involve community
leaders and civic organizations to make a difference. |

Sue Snow

Prenatal Services Contact and Case Oversight
Sue worked in the educational field for many years with children
of various ages and their parents. Her first job at Healthy
Start was doing assessments for at-risk pregnant women and
infants. She later moved on to the MomCare program where she
assists pregnant women that are Medicaid eligible find a prenatal
provider and other resources in the community. In addition,
Sue conducts interviews with women who have lost a baby to
help make recommendations to our service delivery system regarding
infant mortality. Sue enjoys reading, yoga, and her grandchildren.

Carmen Diaz

Prenatal Services Contact and Case Oversight
Carmen is fluent in both Spanish and English. For seven years
before joining the Healthy Start MomCare team, Carmen worked
as a family support worker in various home visitation programs.
At the Children’s Home Society, she worked in the Family
Preservation and Healthy Start programs; and at the Stewart
Marchman Center, she worked in the Healthy Start and Sobra
/ Mom Care programs. On March 2, 2006, Carmen received a “You
Make a Difference” award for her seven years of service
with Healthy Start providers. Carmen continues her role as
a MomCare Specialist at the Healthy Start Coalition. In addition,
Carmen conducts interviews with women who have lost a baby
to help make recommendations to our service delivery system
regarding infant mortality. In her spare time, Carmen volunteers
at Our Lady of the Lakes with the youth group; and with the
Deltona Pregnancy Crises Center-Pure Energy Program. |

Yvette Velazquez

Fiscal and Contract Management Support, Board Meeting Support, Appointment Scheduling, Special Projects
Yvette is fluent in both Spanish and English and has been
part of the Healthy Start Coalition since January, 2003. She
has ten years experience in customer service, account representative
and technical support positions in banking, city government
and manufacturing environments. At Healthy Start, Yvette provides
administrative support for supervisory personnel, as well
as the Healthy Start Coalition Board of Director’s meetings.
Her daily objective is to ensure the efficient smooth operation
of the office by carrying out key administrative duties and/or
activities. Yvette enjoys spending time having fun with her
family, taking photographs of them, and relaxing at the beach. |

Clarissa came to Healthy Start as a temporary worker in January, 2006 and was hired to her present position in May, 2006. Prior to that, she worked for eight years in Medical Staffing and Administration, and for ten years as a Medical Receptionist in the Ear, Nose and Throat and Urology fields. At Healthy Start, Clarissa provides administrative support for supervisory personnel, prepares public notices and packets for Healthy Start Coalition Board of Director’s meetings, and works on special projects. Clarissa is an avid reader, base ball fan, and enjoys cooking and swimming. |
