Healthy Start

The primary goal of the Healthy Start program is to reduce infant mortality, reduce the number of low birth weight babies and improve health and developmental outcomes. It is a voluntary program for parents who are expecting a baby or have a newborn. Healthy Start provides participants with information about and referral to the following services: prenatal care; immunizations; well-baby care; breastfeeding and nutrition; the growth and development of their children; parenting; parent-child activities and community services. Enrollment can occur anytime during pregnancy or following the birth of the child. Healthy Start services can be provided up to the third birthday of the child.

MomCare

MomCare is a Medicaid health insurance for pregnant women. Each eligible pregnant woman is assigned a MomCare Advisor who assists pregnant women with the following: selection of a Medicaid prenatal care provider; assistance in scheduling and keeping medical appointments; following medical guidance and resolving problems with access to services thereby improving pregnancy outcomes.

Healthy Families

The Healthy Families program is designed to prevent child abuse and neglect through the promotion of positive parenting practices that foster home health, safety and developmental enrichment. It is a voluntary program for parents who are expecting a baby or have a newborn. Healthy Families provides participants with information about and referral to the following services: prenatal care; immunizations; well-baby care; breastfeeding and nutrition; the growth and development of their children; parenting; parent-child activities and community services. Enrollment can occur anytime during pregnancy and must occur prior to the child turning three (3) months of age. Healthy Families services can be provided up to the fifth birthday of the child.

FIMR (Fetal Infant Mortality Review)

FIMR is an action-oriented, community-based continuous quality improvement process that complements Healthy Start efforts in addressing issues related to infant mortality, low birth weight and health disparities. FIMR works to improve the community’s service delivery system and identifies gaps in resources.
