Community Cafes
The Community Cafés are a collaborative effort between Parent Leaders, Healthy Start, Early Learning Coalition, The Chiles Academy, Stewart Marchman ACT Behavioral Healthcare, United Way, Community Partnership for Children and Circuit 7 Department of Children and Families. Each Café site will
- be an access point for families, who function as equal partners in their operation.
- use the Five Protective Factors of the Strengthening Families Framework, which include
- parent resilience
- knowledge of child development
- practical and concrete support in times of need
- social connections, and
- social and emotional development of children.
The sites will have:
- Family counselors
- Department of Children and Families (DCF) Access (navigation assistance for Medicaid and other services)
- Computer/Internet access
- Resource and referral sources
- Virtual parenting through the Parenting Wisely evidence-based program
- Group Parenting
- Fingerprinting
- Child care and assessment services for high risk families
- Pregnancy testing
- Fun activities for families
- Community Café dialogues (meet once per month)
- Male involvement for fathers
The first Community Café site opened in October at The Chiles Academy Bonner Center, Daytona Beach. Two other sites will open in Deltona and New Smyrna early in 2012. Current Café locations are listed below:
