Child Watch

What is Child Watch?

  • The Child Watch Program was created by the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF), a national organization whose mission is to leave no child behind.
  • Child Watch programs are conducted nation wide and raise awareness of the various issues concerning the welfare of children.
  • The program brings together elected officials, businessmen, media representatives, teachers, principals, spiritual leaders and other community anchors to convey the importance of investing in children.
  • Child Watch participants are taken to child care centers, clinics, neonatal intensive care wards, and other places to witness first hand the state of their community's children and learn what can be done.

What Will I Gain From Attending Child Watch?

  • Awareness: The child watch visitation shows the participants the faces and stories of real children and their families in light of the statistics and reports. Participants visit on-site programs that serve children and families, are provided with written background materials and receive briefings throughout the event by local experts .
  • Child Watch
  • Education: Participants will be briefed on family support services available throughout our area and the services that are also lacking. They will visit the Halifax Hospital Neo Natal Intensive Care unit to see and experience the problems caused by being born too small, too soon. They will have the opportunity to interact with students from the Chiles Academy, a charter school that serves pregnant mothers and their children.

  • Inspiration: Participants learn the challenges of achieving and maintaining a healthy community for all our children and their families. They learn ways in which they can make a difference. They receive a "call to action" and an opportunity to get involved in their community .
